Introduction

Max Fennell is not just breaking barriers as the first Black American professional triathlete - he’s rewriting the rules of endurance sports. His athletic journey, marked by grit and determination, has recently shifted into the demanding realm of fitness racing, a discipline that merges functional fitness with the endurance of triathlons. Amid this intense training, Max’s ability to recover effectively became crucial to maintaining his competitive edge.

Background

Max trains up to 30 hours a week across multiple disciplines - cycling, swimming, running, and strength training - constantly pushing his body to its limits. However, this intense schedule also creates persistent recovery issues. Nagging pains in his hamstrings, calves, and hips slowed him down, and the stress of competing at the highest level compounded his physical struggles. Max needed a powerful, consistent recovery method to support his rigorous training without compromising his performance. That’s where Shiftwave entered his life.

Usage

Max integrated Shiftwave into his daily routine 4-5 times a week. He rotated between various protocols, including "Ride the Tiger",  "Boost Your Day", and “Core Recovery”, which target physical recovery, alertness, and mental well-being.

Measured Results

Max used personal data and subjective experience to assess Shiftwave's impact on his training and recovery. Since incorporating Shiftwave into his routine, he has placed 7th and set personal records in both DEKA FIT races he has competed in, where last year he didn’t crack the top 10. He reported a significant reduction in muscle soreness and quicker recovery times, allowing him to train intensely daily; additionally, his tendons and muscles have remained healthy, preventing minor injuries from becoming chronic and impeding his training. Max also noted improved mental clarity and reduced stress, helping him achieve a better mind-body connection and allowing him to reach a flow state more easily during competitions.
